The South Carolina Section of the American Council of Engineering Companies (SC-ACEC) recently held their annual Engineering Excellence Awards Gala —”the Academy Awards of the engineering industry”—which honors the year’s most outstanding engineering accomplishments. During the ceremony, John C. Sheridan IV, PE., SE. with The Sheridan Corporation received the coveted “ENGINEERING EXCELLENCE AWARD” and the ‘SMALL FIRM AWARD” for the structural engineering design of “The New Turn” of the Battery for the City of Charleston. The project, completed on July 25, 2014, replaces the former 90-degree turn constructed in 1917 to join the High Battery with the Low Battery.
